Central Italy hit by 5.0 earthquake

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake rocked central Italy early Thursday morning, the latest in a string of strong temblors that have hit the region. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was shallow, at just 6.2 miles deep, and hit 32 miles southeast of Perugia. One week ago, two earthquakes -- measuring 5.5 and 6.1 -- struck the area, and on Sunday, a magnitude 6.6 quake, the biggest to hit Italy in 36 years, caused immense damage in the Apennine mountains, displacing 15,000 residents.
